Ubuntu Romanian Remix

I am happy to announce the release of Ubuntu Romanian Remix (Ubuntu pentru România, in Romanian language).  It is based on the Ubuntu 9.04 LiveCD, but it comes with Romanian as the default language.

For many people, the Ubuntu Live CD, is the first contact with the Ubuntu operating system, and the Ubuntu Romanian team tries to improve this first interaction for Romanian users.

In the same time we have translated the Ubuntu Tour in Romanian and hacked the ubuntu-loco Drupal theme to accommodate the required changes.

The customization process was painless, and I would like to thank all contributors of the Live CD Customization Guide for their great work. What an excellent guide!

In case you have difficulties in creating an Ubuntu LiveCD for your language, feel free to contact me and I will try to help.

On what planet are you living?! There is Kiwi Linux since 2007! Romanian+Hungarian+English Ubuntu, that is.

I am sorry to disappoint you but I know about Kiwi and I am one of the initial Kiwi contributors. If you want to find out more about why we choose to have a Romanian version for Ubuntu please read the Ubuntu Romanian Team mailinglist.

The main reason for creating an Romanian remix is to avoid a fork and instead of working on artwork and replacing all occurence of Ubuntu with Kiwi, people should concentrate on improving Romanian support for Ubuntu.

Forking a fork, or deriving from a derivative, or making sure there are 81,237,128,947,612,894 Ubuntu spins out there…

    (Sigh.)

    Kiwi is a fork.
Ubuntu Romania Remix is not a fork, rather just a recompilation of the Live CD and is using only the oficial Ubuntu repo.
Just like we have Ubuntu Destkop or Ubuntu Server or Ubuntu Alternate, we also have Ubuntu Romanian Remix.

Feel free to ignore this Remix, but I am sure that for non-English speakers this remix is more usefull that the original LiveCD.

I would like to congratulate you for this initative. Too much so called forks around here. We would really need a custom artwork and improvements to standard Ubuntu. Keep it on, guys!

    @Béranger,

Maybe you missed the point, Ubuntu Romanian Remix is the result of the work of Ubuntu Romania Team which spent quite a lot of time _TRANSLATING_ Ubuntu rather than re-branding Ubuntu.

TRANSLATIONS should go upstream, so that each and every user of the “official Ubuntu” could benefit of them!

Béranger, before spreding FUD please check the facts,

At least for the Ubuntu Romanian team, you can see that GNOME, KDE, GNU translations are done upstream.

Ubuntu Romania Remix is just Ubuntu, not yet another distribution.

I’m not spreading any FUD (you, the ecstatically-orgasmatically-addicted to Linux, you’re always using big words like FUD and trolling — get a life!).

If the translations are upstream, then there is no need for a “remix” of Ubuntu.

If there isn’t enough place on the official CD for the Romanian language, then ask Mark Shuttleworth to do what Mandriva One does: several CDs, depending on the geographical area (Europe, Asia, etc.).

If this can’t be done, than Mark is a dictator.

Anyway, I am tired of “remixes” the same way I’m tired of derivatives, forks and whatnot.

    You’we got a twisted mind
I’m free not to get a life
I don’t think this is the right place where people should dump their frustrations

There isn’t enough space to host all languages on a single CD.

Why do we need to ask Mark, when the Ubuntu Community is able to create those several CDs.

Don’t forget we are talking about free software and I’m free to modify it and publish those changes.
Feel free to use Ubuntu or Mandriva One, I’m not trying to „sell” you anything.

    This was just an announcemnent.

    Cheers
